Working on layout of the Flaneerpad

During the press hour on 8 April, alderman John Aarts and Corné Rutten of the Meedenkgroep announced the arrival of the Flaneerpad. In the coming period, signs, symbols and road markings will be placed. These will make visible that the middle path is for strolling and quiet cycling. On Wednesday afternoon, 23 April, the Flaneerpad will be festively inaugurated.

During the press moment, the new 'Flaneer etiquette' was introduced: walking together - strolling together. The Flaneerpad with its benches and trees is first and foremost a pedestrian area. Cycling is allowed but only at a slow pace. Fast cyclists are welcome on the carriageway.

At the same time, work was already underway outside to place the various symbols on the Groene Loper. On the Flaneerpad, for instance, signs have been placed at strategic places (see photo above) with the friendly rules of behaviour and existing traffic rules. The first markings on the many brick access paths have also been placed. These will soon total 60 (see photo below).

On the carriageway, the new symbol of a 'fast cyclist' has been applied (see photo below). This symbol warns motorists that they will encounter cyclists. Motorists will soon see 19 cyclists on the carriageway between Geusselt and Europaplein. Then it's hard to be surprised anymore about cyclists on the carriageway...
