Maybe you’ve never owned a bike before, or you only use one for short trips. In Maastricht, it’s different: cycling is often the fastest, cheapest, and most convenient way to get around. From lectures to drinks, from groceries to sports – your bike will take you everywhere.

Right now, a new #posifiets socials campaign is running to help students get started with cycling in Maastricht. You might already have seen tips and facts popping up – from where to park safely to how to avoid costly fines. And during the Welcome To Maastricht market at INKOM we’ll be there in person to answer your questions and help you get rolling.

On 18 August, during the Welcome to Maastricht Market (11:30 – 16:00, Tapijnkazerne), you’ll find us in the red #posifiets shirts. We’ll help you with everything you need to know to move around the city without stress – from finding a good bike to avoiding fines.

Why stop by #posifiets?

Even if you already know how to ride a bike, there’s plenty to learn about cycling in Maastricht:

  • Where to park for free and safely in the city centre, even for longer periods
  • Where to rent or buy an affordable bike
  • How to avoid having your bike removed
  • How much fines can cost – and how to avoid them

#posifiets - what does it mean?

Cycling in a way that works for you and doesn’t cause problems for others. That includes:

  • Keeping pavements clear for pedestrians, prams, and wheelchairs
  • Getting off your bike in shopping streets during opening hours
  • Paying attention to the road, not your phone

Small habits that make the city more enjoyable for everyone.

Obstacle Run & VR experience

In the Obstacle Run, you’ll see what it’s like for people who struggle to move through the city when pavements are full of parked bikes.

Back this year: the VR experience. Step into a virtual city where cyclists, pedestrians, and cars sometimes get in each other’s way. You’ll learn to spot safety risks – and see how a careless choice can quickly lead to a fine of €50 to €160.

Take part & win!

Try the Obstacle Run or the VR experience, spin the prize wheel, and win fun #posifiets gadgets.
We’ll see you on 19 August or at one of the other events during the Introduction Weeks!
