The Social Hub Maastricht is tackling bicycle parking nuisance with a sticker campaign
The sticker shows the resident's room number, making it easier to identify bicycles parked outside their own underground bicycle shed. The Social Hub Maastricht wants to encourage the use of its own underground bicycle parking facility and asked #posifiets to help come up with a practical solution. The result: a simple, recognisable TSH x Swapfiets x #posifiets sticker on residents' bicycles.
The sticker shows which (Swap)bikes belong in the underground bicycle parking facility, without being traceable to a specific person. Only the room number is mentioned, so that TSH employees can contact residents if, for example, a bicycle is parked outside the parking facility.
“We noticed that the bicycle parking facility was not being used to its full potential, even though many residents use a (Swap) bicycle,” says Luc van Neer, general manager of The Social Hub Maastricht. “This simple but effective solution makes it easier for us to engage with residents and keeps the outdoor space around TSH tidier.”
The stickers measure 7 by 4 cm, are eye-catching but remain modest, and are easy to remove when a bicycle is returned. Swapfiets employees apply the sticker when the bicycle is issued; residents only need to provide their room number. TSH residents with a non-Swapfiets bicycle will also receive a sticker.
The campaign ties in with The Social Hub's broader ambitions to contribute to a liveable city and with the mission of #posifiets: #safe cycling #cycle more often and, in this case, #safe storage.
