Review Introduction Weeks
During the introduction weeks this year we welcomed about 4,000 new students to Maastricht. During various activities, such as the large INKOM 'Welcome to Maastricht' market, students were given information on how to properly park their bikes. With so many new cyclists on the road, it's important that everyone plays by the rules. That's why the city is pushing the #posifiets campaign.
#Posifiets is an initiative in which educational institutions, advocacy organizations, housing associations, business owners and enforcement work together to make cycling safe and enjoyable. The goal? Cycling without nuisance and with an eye for safety.
During the introduction weeks, the #posifiets team organized several activities for students:
- Obstacle Run: So they experienced what it's like to navigate a sidewalk full of parked bikes with a wheelchair or blind cane.
- VR-Experience: An exciting simulation where they could see how pedestrians, cyclists and cars can “collide” with each other.
- Knowledge Quiz: Here they tested their knowledge about road safety and found out how high fines can be!
- Blue Tires in the City: The 6,000 iconic Swapfiets bikes are here to stay. New renters received personalized tips on safe cycling and parking.
While not all “bike questions” can be solved quickly, the #posifiets approach is growing every day with small steps, enthusiasm and shared responsibility. Want to contribute, too? A free toolkit is available to get started right away. Interested? Send an email to jelle.ummels@zuid-limburg-bereikbaar.nl and get involved!
