Cycling lessons in Maastricht
If you come to Maastricht from abroad, it is not always obvious that you can already cycle. In Maastricht there are 2 organizations that provide cycling lessons for immigrants, expats, status holders and foreign students.

Maastricht Road Safety Group (VVG Maastricht)
VVGM offers cycling lessons for children, students and adults who can already cycle independently. Lessons are held exclusively in groups, subject to sufficient enrolment.
The lessons focus on participating safely in traffic. Participants are taught about traffic rules and learn how to apply these rules in practice. The theoretical instruction is supplemented by practical exercises on bicycles, with one or more volunteers supervising the group.
VVG Maastricht has been providing road safety lessons in primary schools for several years. These lessons are aimed, amongst other things, at preparing pupils for the practical road safety test. Attention is paid to recognising and safely assessing traffic situations and to correctly applying the road rules whilst cycling.
The lessons are based on the assumption that participants already know how to cycle. VVG Maastricht therefore does not offer cycling lessons to teach how to cycle, but road safety lessons in which participants learn how to navigate traffic safely and in accordance with the rules of the road as cyclists.

Verkeers Veiligheids Groep Maastricht (VVG Maastricht)
Verkeers Veiligheids Groep Maastricht (VVG Maastricht) offers cycling lessons to children, students and adults. These lessons include theoretical instruction on traffic rules, followed by practical exercises, both individually and in groups, with the guidance of one or more volunteers. They have been giving practical lessons at primary schools for several years to prepare students for the practical traffic exam.
Besides their traffic lessons, they also focus on bicycle lighting and visibility in traffic. They highlight the importance of proper lighting and visibility in traffic and offer repair facilities, especially to students, and carry out repairs in community centres. This is seen as an integral part of their traffic education, both theoretical and practical.
At several primary schools, they carry out bicycle inspections in preparation for the practical traffic exam. They organise bicycle lighting campaigns at schools and take part in the final practical exam with checkpoints involving parents and volunteers. They also work to raise awareness of traffic situations in the city of Maastricht.
Finally, they organise driving skills rides for the elderly, especially those over 50, in their own cars so that they can remain mobile. This service also applies to mobility scooters and e-bikes.
