New phase, new traffic situation in Maastricht-West

The Noorderbrugtracé project will continue working on the redevelopment of the Boschstraat - Frontensingel and the conversion of the Brusselseweg roundabout between Fort Willemweg and Nobellaan until the beginning of December. In mid November, phase two of the construction work will begin at both locations. This will naturally lead to a number of changes for traffic.

In early 2018, the underground bicycle-parking facility in front of the train station was opened. The municipality of Maastricht, ProRail, and the Dutch Railways (NS) invested in a safe and modern underground bicycle-parking facility. Together with Ger Pagters, station manager, and Richard van Kan, manager of the Dutch Railways’ bicycle-parking facility, we can look back on the ‘Parked just right?’ bicycle campaign. We also look ahead to the developments that are planned in the area surrounding the train station.

Cycle bridge at Europalaan in Beek opened

The new cycle bridge, which spans the Europalaan road, was opened on Friday 26 October. Cyclists and moped users can now cross the road without having to wait for traffic lights. However, the bridge is not completely finished, as the LED lighting will be installed in spring. The cycle bridge has been opened despite this, because there are currently sufficient light sources in the area to ensure safe use of the bridge.

The German and Belgian holidays on 1 and 2 November (All Saint’s Day [All Hallows] and All Souls’ Day) will cause extra congestion in and around Maastricht. As a result of the final construction works for the Noorderbrug route project, there will be extra congestion on the roads in Maastricht-West as well as those leading to the car parks in the city centre.
