Sixty red #posifiets banners decorate the tree guards
It's a cheerful sight walking from Maastricht station to the city center. Meters of red tarpaulin decorate the tree guards on the Stationsstraat and Maastrichter Brugstraat. They serve as a reminder to cyclists to park their bicycles in a designated parking area rather than against a tree. Another fine example of the visible presence of #posifiets in town to make everyone aware of #safeparking.
Reminders and a discount
You may have already spotted them: over sixty tarps wrapped around the tree guards span the Stationsstraat and the Maastrichter Brugstraat. In consultation with the municipality of Maastricht, #posifiets spared neither time nor effort to realize this major project. Texts in both Dutch and English remind cyclists to keep the trees clear and use the bicycle facilities in the city instead. In true #posifiets fashion, we also thank you in return for your efforts: scan the QR code to receive great discounts from several local business owners!
Clear sidewalk – everybody happy
By placing your bike in the parking lot instead of against the trees, you are doing both local business owners and passersby a favor. A free sidewalk is more pleasant for everyone, for people with disabilities for instance, or those in a hurry to catch their train. Store owners and hospitality providers are assured of an entrance that all visitors can reach effortlessly. Mattie Zeegers, store manager at Profuomo, is enthusiastic about the banners: "There are so many visitors, but also employees from businesses in this street who park their bikes here. The banners are beautifully made and very clear in their message, and we will keep reminding everyone of the rules!" Local enforcers are also happy with the project, which instills #posifiets awareness in all cyclists on these streets. And you can’t deny: a clear street, where the trees are visible in all their splendor, that's what we all like to see, isn’t it?
Use it to your advantage
The biggest winner of #safeparking is your bike. If you park your bike in a facility instead of against the trees on the street, you can be sure that after your visit to the center you will find it back undamaged and where you left it. From the Maastrichter Brugstraat, it takes no time at all to reach the guarded bicycle parking facility on the Kesselskade, where you can park your bicycle for free for 24 hours, or at the free unsupervised parking facility at the Vissersmaas. Please note the closing times of the Kesselskade parking. If you are on the Stationsstraat, you can of course use the supervised parking facility at the station.
