Plenty of interest in the development of the new traveller app

Soon, your entire journey can be selected, planned, booked, and paid for via a single app, even if you plan to cross borders. That is the goal of the pilot, which will start in 2020 and for which the Province of Limburg and Zuid-Limburg Bereikbaar are currently preparing a tender. On Monday 8 April, twelve companies visited the provincial government building for an information session about the 'Mobility as a Service' (MaaS) pilot project in Limburg, which is part of a joint initiative of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Public Works and seven regional and local authorities.

Making future-oriented travel possible

The way in which we travel is changing at a rapid pace. If we want to keep up with these changes, it is important that government authorities and the business community experiment with practical applications that promote sustainable mobility. The MaaS pilot is seen as an important step towards making flexible and borderless mobility more attractive. In Limburg, this cross-border aspect is particularly important in order to open up not only the current connections but also the future connections and modes of transport in the Netherlands and abroad.

Information session

During the information meeting, the ambitions and objectives of the project were presented to the interested companies. It was also a meeting where questions were asked and ideas were tested, such as the possibility of developing this app in a cost-effective way, so that travellers throughout the Euregio can use it without any hassle. Discussions also touched on how long it would take to develop this type of app; the target release date is now 2020.
