‘Light it up!’ bicycle-light campaign
Having a good pair of working lights on your bicycle reduces your chances of being involved in an accident by 20%, if not more. This is reason enough to make sure you are visible to other road users when it's dark! To help cyclists stay visible, Maastricht Bereikbaar and ROVL (the regional body for traffic safety in Limburg) organise the ‘Light it up!’ bicycle-light campaign in December.
Free check of your bicycle lights
The campaign started on 30 November, on and around Markt square. On 13 December you can spot the promo team around the buildings of Maastricht University, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM. And on 21 december you'll find the promo team around Boschpoort. Our promo team – you'll see them wearing special jackets – will speak to cyclists about the importance of having a good pair of lights. If your lights are broken and you have no replacements, you will be offered a new pair of lights there and then.
Cycling with poor or broken bicycle lights can be dangerous. Research has shown that having a working pair of good-quality bicycle lights decreases the chances of an accident by 20%, if not more. We are happy to see that more and more people are taking this seriously and making sure their bicycle has a working pair of lights.
Maastricht Bereikbaar and ROVL want to literally spread the light. We hope that all cyclists in Maastricht will shine bright and ensure they have a proper pair of lights.
