Maastricht's international bus station to open in January
Until early December, the contractor Strabag will continue to build the international bus station behind Maastricht’s main railway station. The new bus station at Meerssenerweg will be inaugurated on 6 January 2020. The new Kiss + Ride parking spaces on Parallelweg have been completed and are now in use.
Because of the licence plate registration devices that operate the barrier, only international bus companies can access the international bus station. The grand opening of the bus station will take place on 13 January.
More space
Because of the increasing number of international buses stopping in Maastricht, there was not enough space for the buses at the rear of the station on Meerssenerweg. This bus station has therefore been moved to the former ProRail shunting yard on Meerssenerweg, which has sufficient space to accommodate a bus station.
Cross-border public transport
Maastricht is the first municipality in the Netherlands to construct an international bus station in collaboration with bus companies. The bus station on Meerssenerweg is the departure point for over twenty European destinations.
