German Unity Day

Travelling tips for peak days

People visit Maastricht from far and wide for special events and on peak days. We want to give you a few travel tips to ensure that you can travel quickly and cheaply to the Maastricht city centre and avoid any congestion.

By bicycle

Park your bicycle in the sheltered parking facilities on Markt, Kesselskade, or in the underground facility at the main railway station. If there is an event in the city, you can often park your bicycle at a temporary event parking facility. We select a suitable location for each of these parking facilities and show their location on our website.

By bus

The bus will take you quickly and easily to Maastricht city centre from various districts within the city, the Heuvelland region, surrounding Belgian cities and villages, and from Aachen. Plan your journey via Arriva's website or on www.9292ov.nl. Pay for your trip with your public transport pass (OV-chipkaart), buy a ticket online ahead of your trip, or pay in the bus.

By train

The city centre of Maastricht is easy to reach with the Arriva and NS trains, the Arriva train from Aachen, and the international connections from Belgium. Public transport ensures you can comfortably travel to Maastricht, arrive in the middle of the city centre, and avoid any trouble parking your car.

By car

If you decide to travel to the Maastricht city centre by car, be sure to have a look at our Smart Map before you leave. The Smart Map will show you where traffic is busy and where you can find parking. To make things easier for you, we've got a few parking tips:

  • We recommend parking on the side of the Meuse river that you are coming from, to avoid traffic congestion on the bridges over the Meuse.
  • Park at P+R Maastricht Noord for free. From there, you can travel to the city centre quickly and cheaply (a day return is €2 per person, and the group fare for 3-5 people is €5) on bus numbers 10 and 30.
  • Park at the Park+Walk sites Stadspark or Frontenpark. On Saturdays and Sundays, the Bonnefanten car park is also a P+W location. You pay a daily rate of €6.60 at the Stadspark P+W car park and €9 at the Frontenpark and Bonnefanten P+W car parks.
  • Visit our website for a complete list of all car parks.
