Cycling routes

South Limburg is a very popular region for cycling and is ideally suited for exploring by bicycle. You can find information about wonderful cycling routes in many different places. We’ve compiled the most important ones for you here.

Plan your own cycling adventure in Maastricht and surrounding areas

Plan your own route using the fietsrouteplanner (cycle route planner) from Fietsersbond or Fietsrouteplanner Zuid. With these route planners you can easily plan and calculate a route in the area, or extend that across the whole international cycle route network.

Information about cycle routes

  • You can find a plethora of possibilities for exploring the region by bicycle at the VVV South Limburg website. In addition you can also find great cycling packages.
  • The Fietsersbond Maastricht has various cycling routes from Maastricht.
  • Avid cyclists can cycle the famous 125km long Mergellandroute. The most beautiful and well signposted cycling route in the Netherlands, which starts at Maastricht central station.
  • Cycling fans can use Maastricht as a base for climbing the kilometres in the Heuvelland and the Voerstreek (border region). The Cauberg is (for experienced cyclists) just 15 minutes from Maastricht. You can find more information and a large number of cycle routes at www.wielrennenmaastricht.nl.

Cycle hire

Don’t have a bicycle or want to cycle comfortably over the hills with an e-bike? You can hire a bicycle, racing bicycle or an e-bike at many different locations.

Rent a bicycle or e-bike for a day

You can also discover Maastricht and the surrounding areas in a sporty way by bicycle or e-bike. You’ll find that cycling on an e-bike means you can easily take on the hills of Limburg. You can hire a bike from €10. Check the Visit Maastricht website for an overview of cycle hire locations in Maastricht.
