Car sharing or car pooling
Do you need a car every now and then? Or would you like to lend your own car? Then car sharing or car pooling could be an option for you.
Many commuters drive alone. Research has indicated that if four people were in all vehicles used for work travel, there would be 70% fewer cars on our roads during rush hour. Car pooling is not only good for the environment, but also for your own wallet.
If you need to convince yourself – here are some strong arguments in favour:
- You spend less money on fuel, maintenance and parking – saving money for the next holiday!
- You arrive much more relaxed at your work.
- Meet some new people.
- Less driving with your own car means less kilometers on your mileage counter – You minimise the wear and tear on your car.
- Less cars on the road means less traffic, less traffic jams and less emissions.
Websites for carpoolers
There are diverse car sharing concepts in the Netherlands. You can rent a (electric) car through a bigger commercial organisation like Greenwheels. In Maastricht there are eight cars available through Greenwheels which you can use at any time you wish.
Next to this, there are several forms of peer-2-peer initiatives like CareCar, WeGo, MyWheels and SnappCar (all sites are in Dutch only). At ikbenhopper.nl you can check the availability of share cars from various providers in your neighbourhood by simply typing in your postcode.
