Three steps before you travel
There are a number of steps that you need to complete before you can travel with the personal NS-Business Card. For employees travelling with a department NS-Business Card, these three steps are already completed. The department NS-Business Card is ready to travel with using check in and out.
Step 1: Request function for checking in and out
Log into www.ns.nl/bc
with your card number. The first time you log in, you will need to request the function for checking in and out. Shortly after your request, you will receive a confirmation email specifying that you can activate this function at an NS ticket machine or at a charging point for OV-Chip Cards.
Step 2: Activate the function for checking in and out
Next, you activate your request by using an NS ticket machine at a train station or one of the charging points for OV-Chip Cards. Once you have done this, you can start using use your personal NS-Business Card for unlimited business train travel in comfort.
Step 3: Travel in comfort
Once you have completed the above steps, you can start using your NS-Business Card for business travel by train. If you are travelling with the NS, you will only need to use your NS-Business Card to check in at your departure station and check out at your arrival station.
Booking in advance
If you use a regional transport provider (Veolia, Connexxion, Arriva or Syntus) for the whole or part of your train trip, you will need to book in advance at https://boeken.nsbusinesscard.nl
or by phone on 0900 204 2000 (€ 0.10 per min). If you book online, make sure that you do not check in and out at the train stations. If you do this, you will be charged twice.
Changing your pin code
Please note! For online bookings, you need a pin code. You will need to change this pin code, which initially consists of the first four numbers of your card, to a code of your own choice. Click here
to change your pin code and book online.This is applicable for the personal NS-Business Card as well as for the department card.
- log in using your NS-Business Card number and your pin code
- click on ‘Boeken’ in the left column
- fill in the travel details requested (departure and arrival points, date of travel, single or return, 1st or 2nd class and departure before or after 9.00 (for off-peak discount).
The NS-Business Card is delivered in the class setting as it was initially ordered in (1st

Changing the cost centre or order number
If you book online
Your card has been linked to a specific cost centre or order number. If you would like to charge a trip to another cost centre or order number, you can specify this in the ‘Kenmerk’ box when you book online.
If you travel using check in and out
If you travel using check in and out, you can afterwards consult your travel history via My NS. In the annotation field “opmerkingen” you can specify the preferred cost centre that has to be debited for the trip.
You have to do so before the last day of the month.
You can register your NS-Business Card on ‘My NS’, which gives you an overview of your train trip and the options to add travel features. If you wish to make use of this, you can go to www.ns.nl
and log in under ‘My NS’ with your personal details.
